Remember Gaza -from Viva Palestina

Statement from Viva Palestina (formerly known as COMPLETE Malaysia)

December 27th – January 18th marks the first anniversary of the unspeakable brutality committed by the Zionist regime of Israel against the people of Gaza. For over 22 days, Israel dropped bombs, white phosphorous, used airplanes, helicopters, navy ships, tanks, bulldozers and heavily armed soldiers against a defenseless people.

1,400 dead, 5,000 injured, 20,000 homeless & 50,000 displaced. Schools, hospitals, universities, ministries, homes, shops – nothing was spared. The people of Gaza were simply bombed to death.

All around the world civil societies are marking the first anniversary of this cowardly and genocidal crime and Viva Palestina Malaysia (formerly COMPLETE) calls on all Malaysians to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people by doing the following:

1. Display the Palestinian scarf on 27th December everywhere you go. Drape it around yourself, tie it to your bag, display it in your car. Just let it be seen.

2. Boycott the following companies, supporters of the Zionist regime of Israel, from 27th December to 18th January – Nestle, McDonald’s, Coke and Loreal. Do not buy any of their products!

3. Put up Boycott Israel car stickers, available for free. They can be collected from 6, SS1/24A, Kampung Tunku, Petaling Jaya. Or call Jemaimah at 013 231 4596

4. Observe one minute of silence at exactly 12 noon on 27th December. Turn this silence into a deafening roar against the injustice suffered by the Palestinians.

It is highly encouraged that you get together with family and friends on 27th December. Do take pictures and videos of your activities and email them to complete2009@gmail.com. We will be posting them on our website and Facebook. Viva Palestina Malaysia members and volunteers will be at the open court of Mid Valley Shopping Mall at 11 am on 27th December. Do join us.

Gaza is still under a blockade. The attack gave the Palestinian struggle a global dimension and civil societies all around the world are stepping in to bring about a change. In the words of  Abraham Joshua Heschel,

“Few are guilty, but all are responsible.”

Please circulate this email far and wide. Lets get together and remember a people long forgotten by the rest of the world.

Farewell Dinner

Last Saturday, 20th December 2008, a farewell dinner was held to bid farewell to one of MACMA’s best member, Brother Yahya Ma Yu Qian. He is going to further his study in Al-Andalusia University in Yaman. He had been a loyal and helpful member to MACMA Selangor during his stay in Malaysia. As to appreciate his contribution, some of MACMA members and families were treated in one of Chinese Muslim restaurant in Kampung Baru Subang.

During the dinner, Brother Yahya made his speech and thanked everybody for any help they offered him during his stay here. He was the facilitator for MACMA Selangor Youth Camp (for more info abt the camp held, pls refer to older post), and so 6 participants of the camp were invited as well.

However, the night ended with an incident where MACMA van which was supposed to send the members back home had its tyre flattened. We were helped by the villagers and in 1 hour time, the flattened tyre ws substituted and the journey back home was started.

MACMA Selangor Youth Camp

During the last schol holiday in August (22nd – 24thAugust 2008), MACMA held a Youth Camp in Kem Herba Sg Pangsun Hulu Langat.

It involved 20 school students (15 boys and 5 girls) mostly from SMJK Yu Hua, Kajang. Out of that, only 10 of the participants are Muslims.

There were 7 facilitators during the Youth Camp. They are Pn Noralina Ong, Nur Akmar, Yahya Ma, Fatin Nilisa, Iliham, Rukaiyah and Hamidah Ng. Pn Noralina Ong was the chief facilitator during the camp. Brother Yahya Ma, Sister Iliham and Sister Rukaiyah are from China currently studying in Malaysia. Sister Hamidah Ng is a representative from MAIS while Sister Nur Akmar and Sister Fatin Nilisa are from UiTM.

We departed from SMJK Yu Hua, Kajang at 9am on Friday 22/08/08 to Kem Herba Pangsun in Hulu Langat. Mr Danial Hakim gave his opening speech followed by Pn Noralina Ong and a brief self-introduction by the facilitators. No talks were arranged for the 1st day as the participants were still adjusting themselves.

The next morning, the participants attended the first talk. It was “Islam di China” by Mr Ma Li Wu. A Chinese who have been staying in Malaysia for a decade if I get my fact correct. Although the tile is in Malay, the talk was conducted fully in Chinese. This is due to the fact that this is an activity held by CHINESE Muslim community and it involved Chinese school students.

The next talk was on the same day, in the evening. It was “Budaya di China” by Sister Fatimah Suo. She is a Chinese from China studying in UIA, Gombak . The lingua franca for the camp was Mandarin so, needless to say, so does the talk.

The last talk was “Al-Quran dan Sains”, delivered by Dr Bai Zheng Gang. Dr Bai has been contributing a lot to MACMA and attend almost all activities held by MACMA.

During the camp, the participants had to cook their own lunch and dinner. Cutleries and raw food were provided. They only had to cook them. On the last day, a cooking competition was held. And surprisingly (or maybe not) a group of boys won the competition!

And, that is all for MACMA Youth Camp. Will post more about other MACMA activity soon. Thanks for visiting!
